More Info:
Blessed to have been born in the West Indies, Big Black is the last of three children born with a contagious flow that can change the way we think, the way we feel, the way we dance, and even the way we perceive our own culture. The album is thirteen tracks strong! There are no album fillers here, no skits, no interludes, all heat. Strong from beginning to end, and has something for everyone. Big Black sparked early. Music played for hours out of his fathers' sanctuary he could literally hear beats playing through the walls! In 1995, he moved to the virgin island he remembers' that as the precise moment he went from casual listener to full fledged fiend. He blasted the volume and soaked every word, every drum. That sample-driven classic boom bap didn't erase, but it definitely overpowered any previous musical interests. With a knack for words and great respect for storytelling already in place, it didn't take much for him to start fitting together his own rhymes. Music has always been an escape from the day-to-day stress of life for Big Black. After joining Job Corps and the United States Army, searching a career path, hip-hop and reggae was tossed into the blender and turned on high. Recording in Washington DC, Markus Johnson house of jazz a long way from Aripero village (Trinidad) he turns the heat up with his new album Conscious. This fierce figure Presence is undeniable. Moreover, he looks forward to building his recognition not only within the Hip Hop community but worldwide. Very possibly perhaps one of the most creative, expressive and innovative hip hop albums we've heard in years, Big Black blows over expectations and uses any and every style or genre available... It's always so refreshing to hear a Trinidadian artists push the limits, stretch the horizons and break through the barricades in music. This album does that with incredible cohesiveness and clarity. Big Black is this type of creative, lyrical genius who will inevitably orchestrate a new era in self-expression and boldly carry Hip Hop to heights unseen.
