This was Robert Johnson's very first release on 78rpm. "Kind Hearted Woman Blues" clearly shows the influence of Leroy Carr and is especially notable for featuring a guitar solo by Johnson unlike anything else he ever recorded. The song later became a blues standard, famously covered by Muddy Waters, Eric Clapton, and many others. "Terraplane Blues" is one of the earliest blues songs to use the automobile as a metaphor for a woman. Over a powerful yet springy guitar, Johnson sings with such force that his high notes almost distort. A true classic that fully captures the dynamic intensity of his performance.
